User Experience
Find posted and non-posted document lines in search – Allows the user to easily locate and bookmark specific document lines through the in-product search field, facilitating quick access to analysis data within documents such as Posted Invoices, Credit Memos Shipments, and Receipts, as well as Open Sales and Purchase documents.
Switch companies across environments - Facilitates seamless navigation and comparison across multiple companies and environments through visual cues in the app bar, streamlined company switching, and customizable company badges, allowing users to efficiently manage and analyze data across various companies with ease.
Modern Action Bar - Users now have more capabilities in personalizing their action bar within pages and documents in the system. As well as the ability to access actions more conveniently with fewer clicks, by removing the sub-page action menu 'More Options' and pre-pinning the menus by default.
Add additional columns through personalization in various pages to gain more insight - Allows users to continue customizing content by dragging fields or columns, now including an expanded selection based on community feedback, ensuring optimal data visibility.
Unhindered data entry across rows - Improves data entry efficiency by saving time through a reliable editing process that includes improved marking of required fields, simplifying repetitive tasks and improving existing repetitive entry features.
Refreshed peek experience on related records - Provides helpful and sleek peek preview of related records with an improved layout, facilitating quick access to essential information and enabling smooth navigation between related records.
Get to data search from anywhere in Business Central - You can now begin a data search right from your global search tool by typing in the data you are looking for and selecting Search Company Data. It will then bring you to a list of tables and documents that include the searched terms. This allows for a much more robust searching capability when trying to find specific documents based on keywords, from a single page.
Show related record details from lookup - Streamline workflow with the new "Show details" action in lookup dialogs, allowing quick access to related record information directly from any page, eliminating the need for multiple clicks and enabling informed decision-making with ease.
Add existing table fields to optimize your pages - Allows easy customization of displayed fields, enabling administrators to add and modify fields on pages and documents themselves, cutting down on some needs for custom development and enhancements.
Distinguish between browser tabs when multitasking - Enhance user efficiency by facilitating seamless navigation between multiple browser tabs or windows for data comparison and task management, with improved window distinction to simplify context switching and streamline workflow.
Share error details to get help from another user - Enhance team collaboration and problem-solving efficiency, enabling quick sharing of error details among colleagues and subject matter experts to overcome obstacles and minimize downtime, providing targeted support for streamlined troubleshooting.
Use actions to go to or fix errors inline - Cut down on Error correction time because error validation dialogues now include actions so you can quickly navigate to the source of the error and fix it, making users' workflow more efficient and error resolution even more straightforward.
Finance
Better bank reconciliation for checks and improved reporting - Bank information is now matched with bank ledger information, increasing the match capabilities. Matching rules are also made clearer, and more rules are added to increase matching success rates.
Standardizing the bank reconciliation process in North American versions - Bank reconciliation is now done through the standard Bank Reconciliation page instead of the Bank Rec. Worksheet and supports the same tasks as the Bank Rec. Worksheet did in prior versions.
Financial reporting replaces account schedules - Financial Reporting takes the previous "account schedules" for clearer in-product searchability, with better row and column definitions for easier user-defined report parameters. Budget filters allow us to filter/compare against a specific budget.
Post item charges for each step of the process - The quantity to handle field is added to the Item Charge Assignment page; you can post partial invoices and partial item charges, once you are ready to handle the remaining items, you can assign the remaining item charge.
Bank Account Statement report - improved to allow for more efficient validation and auditing.
Check documents and journals in while you work - Business Central will validate the data you enter in documents and journals while you work on them.
Consolidate customer and vendor balances - When we turn a contact company into a customer or vendor using the Create as Customer or as Vendor the link created is a prerequisite for seeing the Balance as Vendor field on the Customer page and the Balance as Customer field on the Vendor page.
Create bank deposits - Bank deposits let you maintain a transaction record that contains information that can be applied to outstanding invoices and credit memos.
Bank and payment reconciliations - When applying auto-matching, the user can decide to not overwrite any of the already matched entries, or to overwrite all.
Chart of Accounts Overview page – aligning columns with Chart of Accounts page - An overview of the COA in a tree structure making it easier to digest, with an aligned column layout with that of the Chart of Accounts page.
Sync document and posting dates for sales and purchases - This feature makes it easier to align document dates and posting dates to comply with accounting standards and accurate financial calculations.
Make intercompany transactions across Business Central environments - Intercompany just got easier with the ability to do accounting (intercompany posting) for multiple companies.
Generate a customer statement only with open entries - A new option to the customer statement to report balance (overview of outstanding amounts) or Open items which will only show the open entries for the period.
More control over general journal approvals - When a general journal batch is sent for approval, new features ensure users cannot change them before or after approval.
Sales & Purchasing
Release and reopen multiple documents - Users can release all or some sales or purchasing documents to the next stage in the process or reopen them for further processing, all in one go. Using the "select more" functions on lists or just as you would select lines in Excel and execute the function!
Default line type in the sales and purchase documents - For sales and purchase orders, users select the line type of item, g/l account, resource, etc. Under the sales & receivable and the purchase & payables setup, the default line type can be set to "item" and one less step for users processing those documents.
Navigate easier between order, receipt, and invoice documents - This enables the users to access related documents more readily from the source document. This has always been possible, but the BC23 menu reduces the navigation steps.
Reports
Choose the report layout on request page - This feature allows an organization to have multiple layouts for the same report. Users will have the option to choose from the available report layouts for that report.
New pages for report layout administration - A new page, report layouts, provides an overview list of the different available layouts for reports. Users can export layout files and upload new versions of those report layouts. The Report Layout selection page has also changed to make it easier to set the default layout to be used for the report.
Remove obsolete reports 204, 205, 206, and 207 - Reports 204, 205, 206, and 207 have been deprecated and replaced with Reports 1304, 1305, 1306 and 1307. If users are still using the deprecated report, it is advised to start using the new recommended reports.
Discovering reports and administration areas in Role Explorer - The eExplore all feature in the Role Explore has been renamed to Explore more roles. It is enhanced with new filters to show only reports, only administration areas, and overview.
Share a Business Central report or attachment - The new Share option in Business Central allows you to print out, send an email, or grant access to a shared report online by integrating with Microsoft 365 capabilities for file sharing.
Analyze, group, and pivot data from queries - Instead of running reports using different options and filters, you can simply "analyze" from a page and add multiple tabs that represent different tasks or views on the data.
