Find your System Version
In this article
Introduction
365 Cannabis clients may be on different versions of our system. The largest distinction between versions of 365 Cannabis came when Microsoft stopped offering what’s known as the role-tailored client (RTC) and moved to strictly offering the web version of Microsoft 365 Business Central.
NOTE: Clients who use the RTC also have a web version available to them, but most of our users were taught to use the RTC client when it was available.
There’s a major difference in the look of these versions and some changes in the way they function. This article will help you find out which version of the system you're using, and where you can find appropriate documentation for your version.
Do I have the RTC or the Web Client?
This section will show you how to quickly determine if you’re using the RTC or the Web Client.
Web Client
The web client is accessed through an internet browser and will look something like this:
NOTE: Your specific panels and tiles may be different. Visit this article to learn how to customize them in the web client.
Find your Specific Version in the Web Client
To find the specific version of the system that you’re using, select the question mark icon that appears at the top right of your browser window, then select Help & Support.
This will open a window that shows the specific version of the system.
RTC
The RTC is an application that you download on your computer which you can access from the start menu:
The home screen, or role center, for an RTC client will look something like this:
NOTE: Your specific panels and tiles may be different. Visit this article to learn how to customize them.
NOTE: Versions of 365 Cannabis that offer the RTC also have a web version, but many of our clients were taught to use the RTC when it was available. Most processes follow the same steps whether you’re accessing the system through the RTC or the web client.
Find your Specific Version in the RTC
To find the specific version of the system that you’re using, select the blue dropdown arrow that appears at the top left of your RTC window, then select Help > About Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
This will open a new window that shows the specific version of the system.
More Information about the RTC and The Web Client
Microsoft offered the Role Tailored client (RTC) for Dynamics NAV and Business Central until their 2019 release wave 2 of Business Central. After this release, all new subscriptions for Business Central were required to use the modern experience, accessed through “the web client”.
The RTC is an application that the user can download and access from their computer. One major limitation of the RTC is that it is only available for computers that run the Windows operating system (OS). If you’re using a computer that runs on a different OS, such as a Mac, then you may have to use the web client for any version of 365 Cannabis.
As we’ve evolved as a company, so too has our approach to providing support for our clients. Earlier iterations of our documentation for the RTC can be found on our 365 Cannabis Support SharePoint site, but we have also migrated much of this documentation to our 365 Cannabis RTC knowledgebase in Confluence.
NOTE: The SharePoint site does require permission to access it. If you see a message that asks you to request permission, please send the request with your email address, and our team will grant you access.
Clients of 365 Cannabis that use Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central can access product documentation for their version at the 365 Cannabis Business Central knowledgebase.
